Hopefully, many of you have now the chance to play the course and find it in good condition, despite only being allowed limited essential maintenance during the lockdown. (Fortunately, the Club Chairman suggested we got all the green staff back in about a week before we knew we could open, that gave us the opportunity to get the course ready for play). The green’s staff have looked after the course superbly during lockdown, for that we must thank them. Working and social distancing is not easy. I'm sure you find the course rather different, with no course furniture allowed and only the yellow and red tees out at the moment. Everything is covered for a reason so do please avoid touching the flags and any other bits of the course furniture. Please let the green staff or the Chairman of the greens know if you see any problems. Please do not try to put rubbish in the covered bins, as some members keep trying to, take it home! They are covered for a reason. Also, if possible do not use the barrier keypad, use a remote, your card, or wear a glove. Observe the do not touch signs, Bolton is still a higher risk area. Members were also surprised on the number of pitch marks after only one day’s play, normally we blame visitors and societies for all the pitch marks, but I'm afraid we must be guilty in this case, please look for any extra pitch marks you can repair. As usual, at this time of the year, we see a variable rate of growth on the different grasses, (look at the fringes of the green where it is most easily observable). This always starts to balance out in a few weeks’ time with a little more growth. However, some warm rain would also be very helpful. Enjoy playing |
